With a click of a button, it is easy to accept a friend request on Facebook, and normally it is a thrill to do so. However, what if the friend request is from a manager or boss? A study by Fierce Inc. has found that majority of US employees are uncomfortable in accepting it.
Reported by Business News Daily, employees fear the Facebook friend request from their higher-ups because of two reasons: firstly, at least one in three employees know of someone who was reprimanded for their inappropriate Facebook postings. Secondly, 40% of employees engage in communications deemed inappropriate at the workplace with other employees, such as gossiping and flirting.
Yet, these fears still do not faze employees from using Facebook at the office. At least 80% of workers use Facebook at work. However, despite this high usage, more than half of the employees report that Facebook does not enhance relationships at work. About 16% of workers have lost respect for their colleague after seeing what they posted on Facebook.
Also, employees revealed other concerns with Facebook usage such as its negative impact on productivity at work (23%) and sharing personal information with others made them feel uncomfortable (18%).
The research was based on the response of 800 US employees and executives from several industries, the news stated.
